This calendar contains the tournaments we are planning on attending this year. Lincoln-Douglas (grades 8-12) have "LD" in front of them. Middle School (grade 7) has "MS" in front of them.
For the LD tournaments, we will normally leave the day before a tournament begins (unless it is in Los Angeles). This calendar takes that into account. We will try to minimize the amount of school missed, balanced with reasonable flights and arrival into the city in which we're competing.
We will give more specific logistics when we send out Tournament Interest forms.
Many tournaments have strict entry limits. The coaches will make decisions as to who will attend tournaments based on a number of criteria. These include: the chances of winning, commitment to the team (including attending practice and work outside of practice), seniority, and opportunity.
We offer the following suggestions when deciding on which tournaments to attend:
- For younger and less-experienced Lincoln-Douglas debaters we suggest that you try to go to as many tournaments as possible. Until you reach your third year of debate, experience is the most important factor in improvement.
- For debaters in their 3rd or 4th year of debate (generally 10th-12th graders), we suggest that you try to attend tournaments in a run of consecutive or near-consecutive weekends in order to maximize the opportunity to build momentum. We will do our best to accommodate those according to the criteria mentioned above.
